Those permissions are the same as mine.

The owner and group look as if they should be ok, but I note that my
installation, with SlimServer installed for one (non-admin) user only
have both mplayer and mplayer.sh with the group being the same as
owner. Your group is admin, which should work, though.

Another issue that occurs to me is the path to mplayer as given in
mplayer.sh. What do you have?

I looked at your logs, and the difference is clear, though I am not
sure why this occurs.

In the command-line log, there is a chunk that reads

The prefpane log does not have the "Streaming: Launching mplayer ..."
line, so evidently mplayer is not being called properly.
