Hey youze guys, Firstly, Thanks a bajillion to Michael for all his excellent works.
Secondly, Thanks to Fredly for initiating those concerns. I second and add: Thirdly, I can't seem to get any stable activity out of any of the versions of slim remote. I have Slimserver running on an old e-machines p3 1.3ghz w/384MB and Softsqueeze as my current player running on the server machine under XP Pro sp2. I'm runnig the remote apps on a p4 2.4ghz w/ 512MB XP Pro sp2. At first I had connection problems w/ all versions but finally fixed that by opening port 9090 (TCP)on the server machine's windows firewall. I finally got the Java remote to connect but it froze on the "Music" tab while locking cpu at 99%. At first I thought this might be from running other java apps concurrently but it seems to not make much difference. With the Win32 version, as long as I throw the .dll away it works best out of all of them. It seems there is some default squeezebox ip and there is no option to redirect the search when the .dll file is in the same directory. So I get the "no device connected..yes/no" dialogue. If I throw out the .dll then a dialog asks to which ip to connect. So far so good... as long as I don't click on the playlist tab. If I click on the playlist tab, up pops a console window with some printout that looks like this: java.lang.NumberFormatException: tracks 14 at ewe.sys.Convert.parseInt(Convert.java:<native method>) at ewe.sys.Convert.parseInt(Convert.java) at java.lang.Integer.parseInt(Integer.java) at java.lang.Integer.parseInt(Integer.java) at net.herger.slim.ui.PlaylistPanel$Playlist.getItemCount() at ewe.ui.SimpleList.itemsSize(SimpleList.java) at ewe.ui.Menu.getActual(Menu.java) at ewe.ui.Menu.needScrollBar(Menu.java) at ewe.ui.ScrollBarPanel.checkScrolls(ScrollBarPanel.java) etc.... I couldn't get the .ewe to work at all, yet. So far it looks GREAT, though, assuming I can work out the kinks. Actually I like the fact that it doesn't update the servers playlist since, to my mind, this adds some functionality. Visitors (or residents) can connect via the remote, play 1 or many songs and the current server's playlist stays intact without having to go back and reload a playlist. I like it. Albeit a bit Don Quixote-ish, I hope to flood the city/country with Squeezeboxes and Slimservers and Herger remotes.
