An update.... Well I took the opportunity to do a complete re-install of Linux Fedora FC5 (I wasn't happy with a few things from the first install), and also to double the RAM to 512MB. I'm still running it as cut-down as possible, with no X-Windows.
I then jumped straight into an install of the latest (8199 - 29/06) 6.5 beta, which went in with no problems. The good news is that things definately seem better - Most of the time selecting "Albums" or "Artists" on the web page doesn't interrupt a radio station now. Unfortunately "All Songs" does cause the Squeezbox to freeze, but for a shorter time than before.... "Top" indicates these freezes/silences are still related to the CPU maxing out. I can't help thinking that if the output could be returned to the web page a bit quicker the Squeezebox wouldn't exhaust its cache. I was hoping that the 512MB of memory I now have would ensure my database (for just 6,000 songs) could reside in memory & give super-fast access. Unfortunately this cannot be the case. Is there any way I can persuade MySQL to make better use of memory? Any other suggestions gratefuly received. Could it be worth raising a bug for this maybe?
