The RWIN solution sounds like there is a timer involved and too much data is being buffered as it is held to be played in real time.
You could try deleting the "-bandwidth 10000000" in the slimserver-convert.conf file. This parameter was only introduced in AlienBBC in Jan 2006 and it speeds up download of "Listen Again" programs - it doesn't affect live broadcasts.
