The intention with the Libraries menu is just to show a sample menu that
divides the libraries into different sub libraries. It will not work in
every possible configuration because the implementation is to simple. A
more robust solution for Libraries menu will use Genres instead of
directory paths to separate the libraries, this will probably be part
of one of the next Custom Browse releases. A genre based libraries menu
also makes it possible to have same music in two different libraries
without duplicate the music files.
To give you some more information how it works I'll describe two
different setups below.
Solution 1: (no shortcuts)
==========================
Code:
--------------------
M:\Music\SlimServer Music
Alex's Music
(Directories with all Alex's music files)
(Shortcuts here to directories outside M:\Music\SlimServer Music\Alex's Music
will not work)
Phil's Music
(Directories with all Phil's music files)
(Shortcuts here to directories outside M:\Music\SlimServer Music\Phil's Music
will not work)
libraryDir=M:\Music\SlimServer Music
libraryAudioDirUrl=file:///M:/Music/SlimServer Music
Slimserver Music Directory=M:\Music\SlimServer Music
--------------------
Solution 2: (with shortcuts)
============================
Code:
--------------------
M:\Music\
Alex's Music
(Directories with all Alex's music files)
(Shortcuts here to directories outside M:\Music\Alex's Music will not work)
Phil's Music
(Directories with all Phil's music files)
(Shortcuts here to directories outside M:\Music\Phil's Music will not work)
SlimServer Music
(Anyting, this is not used by Custom Browse Libraries menu)
SlimServer Libraries
Alex's Music -> M:\Music\Alex's Music
Phil's Music -> M:\Music\Phil's Music
libraryDir=M:\Music\SlimServer Libraries
libraryAudioDirUrl=file:///M:/Music
Slimserver Music Directory=M:\Music\SlimServer Music
--------------------
I would suggest that you look at solution 2 and create a completely
separate "SlimServer Libraries" directory that is somwhere outside the
libraries that slimserver scans. This way the standard slimserver is
not using it. In that directory you can then put shortcuts to all
different directories that you want to appear below the Libraries menu.
All the shortcuts must point to a directory somewhere below the value
you set in libraryAudioDirUlr parameter. Also note that if you have
shortcuts deeper inside the music directory that points somehere else
music files inside these will probably not appear in the Libraries
menu.
Some questions regarding your setup:
1. Exactly what directories does all your shortcuts point to ?
2. Do you get the "Podcasts" in Libraries menu but not the "Alex's
Podcasts" and "Phil's Podcasts" ?
3. Do you want any of the podcasts to appear in libraries ? If not look
at solution 2 above.
