This works perfectly on my old Goflex > Net with Squeeze plug on it and I am pretty sure it worked on the Odroid > U3 as well. The hard drive was sleeping after 10 minutes but waking after about another 10 minutes and never sleeping again. There was no disk activity during this time period so hd-idle would not realise the drive was awake. I disabled the "autostart desktop" function in max2play and that seems to have fixed it. I have read some info about a display timeout after some time but I have not looked to see if this is true but maybe this is the cause. My power supply is only 2A and not the recommended 2.5A but nothing is plugged in to the pi apart from the powered drive.
