Ah, yes, I almost suspected it (was short of asking).
It's a bad design flaw in iOS custom keyboards: apps can bring up own
keyboards (and the equalizer selector is one) but these, too, get
replaced when you use a custom keyboard plus iOS won't anyhow tell the
app and there's no way to override or control the process.
I filed a bug on this years ago but Apple somehow doesn't seem to think
it's worthwhile fixing, probably because so few people use custom
keyboards (these issues in iPeng crop up like once or twice a year).

If you typed the name of the equalizer you want to us that would
probably work....
