Could it be useful to modularize/separate the icon ascii art to separate file(s)? That could make it easier to update icon images (as opposed to re-install the entire plugin).
Then you could make "icon-skins" and users could change icon sets based upon what they prefer. Another thing that could be separated from the main plugin code is the translation strings; making it even easier to find what strings to work on, especially for translation monkeys as myself who might miss some strings in the code (or perhaps even overwrite stuff that wasn't supposed to be translated at all). Basically the idea is intended to make the plugin code easier to maintain and develop, but perhaps I'm way over my head here?
