Thank you both very much for these techniques. I didn't try PaulinPosset's because I don't have playHLS installed, but BPA's was just what I needed.
For any others using this, BPA's method worked for me when I substituted the "http:" at the start of the connection tag href urls with "dash:" in the tune in box. I also discovered I can play the 320k DASH stream with: dash://open.live.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/5/redir/version/2.0/mediaset/audio-syndication-dash/proto/http/vpid/b08k1srz I assume this is the "mtis url" that BPA referenced a few posts previously.
