When I click on the "add account" button, there is clearly a screen
refresh happening, but the resulting screen is identical to the starting
screen.  In case it was the browser, I tried it on both Safari and
Chrome with the same result.

Could you please check the spotty sub-folder to your cache folder (see Settings/Information)? What folders and files would be in there?

I might have asked before... anything in server.log (See Settings/Information again)?

The error message is slightly different depending whether the server is
LMS Repack: "... Operating system Synology DiskStation / armle-linux",
or Logitech Media Server: "...Operating system Synology DiskStation /
unknown"

Do you know how to SSH into the NAS?
