I get the response "Illegal instruction: 4" and an empty file at ~/test.pcm
You mentioned three systems in your postings: 10.8.x, 10.9.5, and Sierra. The latter would work. What would above error be from? You passed authorization, but playback would fail with this illegal instruction? According to some results I've found that error means that an application was compiled for a target newer than your system. But in that case I would expect it to fail immediately, not only when streaming. Unless there's one component in the decoder which was built for a newer version :-(
