It's really looking like a networking issue. All CC commands are
received and executed, but there is to trace of GETing the actual audio,
which mean the GET request is filtered out. Knowing that AirPlay does
not work either, it very much seems to be a firewall problem or a
routing issue.

You said that LMS is in a VM, could it be that this VM is NATed? The
bridge basically says to the players "here is a web server's IP:Port
where to GET the audio" - that is on the the network where LMS is, of
course. The bridge creates such webserver and serves the request. So, if
this is behind a NATed network, it can't work.

You have 2 options, either you set your VM to use a bridged network or
you open a port forwarding rule. If you do so, you must set the port
that the webserver is on. By default, it's starts trying 49152 but it
will go in sequence if not available (see the log). You can set a fixed
value in "Network socket to use". You can set *only* the port by is you
enter <:xxxxxx> where xxxxxx is any port number - don't use the <> of
course. The IP address will still be one of the machine (assuming you
don't have multiple NIC setup, in which case it "might" use the wrong
one, let's see later) - I've not tested that in a while, but looking at
the code it should still work.

[edit]: it's a more complex situation for AirPlay, you probably won't
escape from using bridged networking
