However, the "similarity percentage" information is also available from LastFM so it is possible to retrieve it.
If I am guessing correctly, your main idea is that you want to browse to an artist, then hold play and select to play random tracks for similar artists ? Maybe it also would be useful to have a menu after hold play that shown similar artists and let you choose one specific artist ? (Basically the same as the similar artists menu already available but it would work in all menus) You also said "Less like", is this really useful ? My guess is that in a typical library it would be like playling random with all tracks, it would just exclude a few artists. In that case a random playlist with possibility to include/exclude LastFM tags seems more useful to me. If I am understanding you correctly in the ideal solution you would basically like to create a playlist by specifying a few artists and for each of these specify a percentage. For example: - Artist1: 80% - Artist2: 10% - Artist3: 90% And when the playlist is played it would besides these artists include tracks for other artists according to the specified percentage and the LastFM similarity. Did you mean something else than this ? Spontaneously I like the idea, but I'm not sure the quality of the similarity percentages from LastFM is good enough to make it useful.
