Is an iPod capable of playing a single file WAVs with CUE sheets? I
wouldn't think so, unless the software that loads the iPod (iTunes or a
third party app) breaks the file up.

If you decide to break up the WAVs to individual files (or rerip), keep
in mind that this format is less than ideal for portable players. Flash
memory based players generally don't have that much storage space to be
able to afford using an uncompressed format, and even a lossy format
(giving, say, 50% compression) doesn't leave you much room. And while
a hard drive based portable player may have room for the uncompressed
files, this format will give you considerably less battery life than
compressed lossless and lossy formats due having to spin the drive more
to read the files.

If this is just for casual listening through headphones, then a lossy
format in a relatively low bitrate (64-128kpbs) is usually more than
adequate and gives you good battery life. Many people keep a parallel
music library, with everything transcoded to either mp3 or AAC, for
their portable players.
