It's the Connect daemon which would tell the plugin to pause. If you disabled Connect, then this should technically not be possible. Unless the plugin failed to stop the Connect daemon. Could you please verify whether the spotty executable was still running when you disabled Connect? (I don't know how to do this, as you didn't mention what operating system you're using :-). Basically look at the process/task list and see whether there's a spotty* task.)
