Because the author Triode is no longer on the firum, 1.3alpha3 has not been updated for years. To get it working you need to patch. BBC removed various data feeds which broke V1.* of BBCiPlayerExtra.
There is an updated version of the BBciPlayer plyugin currently 1.5.* and an update to BBCiPlayerExtra. These updates implement DASH protocol and support DASH rather than HLS. The HLS implementation canhave issues on some platrofrms such as Windows. BBCiplayerExtras 2.0 which uses different feeds to provide a more limited "extra" functionality - these feeds are due to end later this year.
