An idea ... how about media controls being displayed when hovering over the icon in the task bar at the bottom of the screen ... like WinAmp does. Prev/Play/Pause/Stop/Next I could do them via custom tray links I suppose.
Also ... adding current playing info to Windows title this would allow people who do not want "always on top" to still be able to get to the basics very easily.
