Sorry.  I've been disconnected for a while. 

The %!z and %!Z were recently added at the request of another user.  The
other user specifically requested the degree symbol be left off.  As an
alternative you can add it in your custom clock format to prevent it
from disappearing during future updates.

I plan to update the settings screen to show the %!z macro a well as any
other macros that maybe undocumented in a future release.
