I click on Pair, the Apple TV shows 4 numbers on screen, I type the numbers into the field on the settings screen but nothing I click on the settings screen seems to either save the pairing, or tell the Apple TV that the pairing is complete.
The AppleTV continues to display the parent digits in perpetuity.
