Originally Android didn't have an official way of supporting Bluetooth
control, but apps got around that by spying on how the system audio
player supports it. A formal API for audio remote controls was
introduced around the time of Android 5, but a lot of older apps
probably do not use it.

In newer Android versions the older methods might not work anymore which
would explain why the official SB app doesn't work anymore, since it
hasn't been updated in ages.
