Maybe 7.0 will help answer this question. Slim wants 7.0 to have a mechanism for finding plugin updates that would work like the extensions manager for the Firefox plugin. This should be something like the current mechanism Slimserver uses to look for Slimserver updates -- Slimserver will need to make one or more requests to the internet to retrieve information about available plugin versions. Here's what the XML might look like, in case you're curious: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=165692&postcount=3 Plugin developers will have to publish XML files in addition to the plugin zip/par files.
How would this help? There are two ways this plugin update discovery could work: 1) Slimserver could make requests directly to the developers' web sites for the XML files with information about plugin versions. 2) Slimserver could make requests *through Slim Devices' web site* to get such info. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=158678&postcount=21 If Slim goes the latter route, it will learn what plugins are in use, and would be able to build a simple database of "most popular" plugins. -- peterw ------------------------------------------------------------------------ peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32004 _______________________________________________ plugins mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/plugins
