I'm not sure I can offer any more insights for you, other than to say there is -always- a lengthy delay (as described in my first post) when starting or skipping tracks via the Spotify Android app. The delay becomes a few seconds less when playing tracks directly via LMS.
When you go to Settings/Advanced/Spotty, what helper would it report to be using? Would you be willing and able to copy a new helper to your SD card and move it to the right place manually?
The card is the default one that came shipped with the rpi 3B+ from IQAudio (SanDisk 16GB) -
