If a plugin is offered but fails to install it can leave files here which keep trying and failing to install. If there are files there that look like chromecast bridge ones, you could try deleting them and see what happens then. An existing version should remain, and you should be able to refuse new installations if you stop auto-updates. Note that files under .../squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins should be left alone (they are for plugins already installed)..
