I've only really noticed the impact when loading the Plugins tab, and on server startup (while it was updating extensions). It could get grim, with mountains of 'stuck' player connection attempts evident. Anyway, no new issues on the Plugins downloader front.
The change seems to have been motivated by issues getting artwork from SoundCloud, and I guess will help anywhere an https 'connection delay' is encountered.. I think I twigged it was likely to be TLS handshake/blocking issues a few weeks ago, but couldn't get my head round where the blocking was taking place, until I came across a non-blocking version of Net:HTTPS. Happily someone competent has dealt with the matter ! As yet I'm not aware of any new issues as a result of the fix, but will be keeping an eye.
