If you use the non-server-side category "Music Folders", the Material is *not* using the BMF API, its using the faster filesystem API. AFAIK, BMF also scans files (e.g. reads tags) when you enter a folder, the filsystem API does not - it simply returns filenames. So, difernet API would explain why one works and the other not.
