I do appreciate your time and thanks.
I removed the new Socketwrapper and replaced it with the previous
version. The new one appeared to cause me syst32 problems. So back to
square one. Could the problem be Codec related -
1)I updated with the latest K-lite codecs 1-2 weeks back
2) Also a couple of weeks ago (start of my Alien problems) I tried to
access the BBC web pages to see whether there was a website based
problem. Firefox prompt came up to install plug in - which turned out
to be Real Player 10.5. I hate Real Player and therefore uninstalled it
a couple of days ago, replaced it today with Real Alternative so that I
can play .ram and .rm files. I can now hear BBC on the web on my
headphones.

Maybe falling out of this is a file corruption - how I dont know. I
feel it is best to reinstall AlienBBC but if I do do I have to
uninstall first and if so how?

I am grateful for your advice.
