It's a combination of several JSON roundtrips from the cloud to your
house to your LMS and back. If e.g. you have slow internet upload speed,
even a fast LMS might not help. But be warned that a pi2 is not going to
be much better than a zero, although at least you have 1GB of RAM then.
If you can just swap the card from the zero into the pi2 then sure give
it a try. For a permanent solution,  I'd say do yourself a favour and
get a pi4 with 2GB RAM for fifty quid. Unless you have rural internet
speeds, that is.

The touchscreen player controls work on Echos with screens (if you touch
the screen briefly they appear) so that's the screen-reference you saw.
It's trivial for the skill to display the metadata but from testing I
found it quickly becomes wrong because of the buffer in the Echo - LMS
thinks playback is way ahead of where it actually is because the Echo
gobbles data to buffer it. At song-transition it all goes awry.
