It's a bit complicated: the pairing is *not* done by the binary helper (the application that depends on the OS/CPU) but it is done by the Perl part. The binary helper can be run on any machine on your network, but the Perl part only run within LMS. The Perl part is mainly a UI fo editing the config file that used by the binary. The only exception is for pairing where the Perl part in in charge, but it requires the binary helper to run at that time (the reason is that the helper stores the IP address of the player in the config file and the Perl part reads that IP to pair). This is the reason why the pairing log is in server.log and not in the helper log... I know, it's a bit complicated :) So, to pair, you must do that on the same machine and you can always export the .xml file to another machine if you want to. Now, if the player does not appear in LMS and if you have these messages of "socket closed", it likely means that you inadvertently have another binary helper running on your network or you might have two instances running on your machine.
