So I disabled the Music and Artist- and the LastFM-plugin as well as Custom Browse and Custom Scan. This worked wonders. RAM usage of my NAS went from 83% to 60%. LMS is quick and responsive with none of the peaks for both RAM and CPU. The .db-files are also considerably smaller. Thank you. However I really miss the MAI-plugin and I guess the artist pics are consuming the RAM. I wish I could only have the Album Reviews and some sort of Bio this is really what I am after. I love the Material Skin with Lyrics, Bio and Review. As for the other plugins I wonder whether Last.fm is so CPU-intensive but I can do without that. Custom Browse and Custom Scan were only for the odd missing artists problem but I have given up on it.
