I don't use the S-Mode. Run in background, start minimized, yes. I don't
have the Surface here now, so I cannot test while writing this. But as
it's not too complicated, I'll just describe what I think I do.

For example, to install updates from the MS Store, the Store's installer
will end SLX processes (actually, I never checked if all processes have
been terminated). After the update, I have to restart SLX, so I type
<Windows key> <s> <q> <enter>. Now it's in the tray, still green I
think, but not 100% sure. I double click it. It opens and more or less
immediately closes. The tray symbol is gone (after being hovered over
with the cursor) and I -think- the only processes still running are
squeezelite-ffmpeg.exe and its conhost.exe. I'll check that later
today.

While I work hard on keeping the appearance that I don't know what I'm
doing, most of the time I actually do. In the times I don't it's
educated guesses. But don't tell anyone. :p And no offense taken, I've
seen my share of basics gone wrong. The problem with the store apps is
that appearance in the tray is set to a specific path (IIRC) and not to
the app's store ID (or whatever it's called). New version = new path =
new taskbar settings required. Whoever had that great idea. :)
