Interesting problem.

When requested - slimserver will go to try to look the name up but
first it checks if the startup test was successful - if the startup
test was not successful, slimserver assumes there is no point in trying
again.

Ping and Tracert do not always work because they use some protocol
feature which can be blocked/disabled by networks and/or hosts - so if
they work then it is useful but if they do not work, you cannot deduce
anything as it could be just "ping" that is disabled not the host.

The original RealAudio bitrate is not supplied to be read online but
BBC uses about 40kbits/sec - not very good as the service was setup to
cater for dialup users. Using Flac to SB ensure that is no change to
quality when sent to SB3 which would happen if RealAudio was transcoded
into MP3.

The Danish station menu just make use of AlienBBC framework for menus
and web interfaces and parsing Website to get URLs on the fly. Once
found, Slimserver knows they are WMA and will choose the appropriate
mechanism for the player i.e. native for SB3, Transcode for
softsqueeze.

IIRC Inside the Dnaish plugins there is the ability to choose which one
of 3 stream quality levels the plugin should use.
