I don't know perl but I looked at your plugin code and couldn't see it using the lastfm user that is registered to scrobble, but I wasn't sure.
That's correct. There's no need for your username, as these calls aren't based on your "collection", but the overall data they have.
As to API calls beyond scrobbling I am not sure, but think not likely. The dev has been very receptive to my requests for changes though.
It wouldn't be easy to implement those features, as they require a lot of data. How would you figure out the most important tracks of an artist? You need to know what people listen to. Only using your own dataset might be very limiting, and you'd end up listening to always the same tracks, as you'd make your favorite tracks even more popular by playing them as the most popular tracks etc.
