The note on the AlienBBC wesbite was specific to the Unofficial build of mplayer on that website. At the time there was no official mplayerhq 1.0pre8 build for OSX which was necessary version for the live radio streams. As a service to other OSX users the mplayer was hosted.
The mplayerhq site now have an up to date OSX build (1.0rc1) for both Intel and PPC.
