Yes.  That is what started it all.  I have deleted the plugin
connection, which gets me to the connect screen with directions to
follow.  I follow those directions including playing spotify on my
android phone.  I then choose the alternate play device from my phone,
and choose the LMS Spotty authorization.  I click that, the LMS web
interface flips back to the Spotty plugin screen which I assume means
that I am authenticated and connected.  I then go back to the main LMS
menu, find Spotty in my apps, click it, and get the error message to the
screen.

Hmm... that's very odd. Could you please enable logging for plugin.spotty, do these steps again, then send me your server.log.zip together with the resulting credentials.json you can find in a spotty sub-folder inside LMS' cache folder (see Settings/Information)?
