Don't go anything less than the 3B+, it really isn't worth the saving. While you can run LMS on anything, the faster the unit, the move responsive it is. I noticed a considerable improvement going from 3B+ to 4. Don't worry about the heat, the worst problems were with early firmware, now fixed. My 4 runs slightly cooler than my old 3B+ for LMS. No doubt it would get a lot hotter if I was using its power more long term, like as a desktop PC.
