Hi Craig I got to the bottom of this with Michael and thought I'd share it for anyone else interested. As you say, you're reading the available Apps for a player from the LMS. For mysb based Apps like Tidal, the player needs to be registered on to the logged in used on mysqueezebox.com. With hardware based players, it's straight forwards to register on mysb as you can connect the player directly instead of using a local LMS. However, with non official players (e.g. Pi's running PCP/Squeezelite in my case), they can't connect directly to mysb. To work around this, Michael added functionality in LMS to add a player to mysb when it connects to the LMS (so long as the LMS is logged into mysb of course). All good so far. The problem I have is that some of my players won't register on mysb because it had already been added in the past to someone else account. The registration is by MAC address. Someone else had run squeezelite or something else on the PIs that wouldn't register for me and those MAC address will stay registered forever to that persons account. I hadn't thought of this - I know about it for a Boom/Touch etc., but of course some previous owner of my second hand PIs had also used them as an LMS player. So, if you can't see Tidal listed under Apps in Material for a particular player but it's there for other players, it's likely that your MAC address is listed to another user. Have a look at mysqueezebox.com/Players.
