Sorry for the delay, grifforama. I wasn't able to test with the airport extreme base station as router. To make a long story short, my ISP (Comcast) uses MAC address authentication, and the apple base station can't do MAC address spoofing (unlike most other routers).
If you're not averse to spending a little money, a decent solution might be to buy a wired router and stick it in front of your aiport base station.
