Yes .55 worked. I am on a clean vista install. I shut both computers off last night. Booted them up this morning and tried to scan again. I got the moose (not responding) for about ten seconds but no other error message and then all of a sudden it started to scan. (and did so successfully)
I made NO setting changes. So it is fixed.
