It's a combination of both. The plugin caches volume change requests
that are received within .25 seconds of each other in order to avoid
overloading the AVR with a continuous stream of small changes. From the
log, I can see that Squeeze Ctrl is sending a flood of very small
incremental volume changes rather than collecting them into one larger
request, which leads me to believe that it uses some sort of
analog-looking volume control. Squeezer also has that kind of analog
dial in its UI, but I never use it because of the behavior you describe.
Instead I use the phone's hardware up/down volume buttons, each press of
which causes Squeezer to send a distinct volume change of +5 or -5,
depending on which button is pressed. This results in smooth volume
changes without overloading the AVR with network commands. If Squeeze
Ctrl offers this type of functionality, I would suggest that you give it
a try. Incidentally, the buttons on either end of the volume bar in the
LMS client serve the same function, sending incremental changes of +2 or
-2.
