As I understand it, DACs that accept I2S use HDMI cables because they
have enough pins to deliver I2S differentially. The differential
voltages for 
BCLK, LRCLK, DATA, and MCLK are needed to allow for the longer cable
lengths between external devices.

You would need something like a Audio-GD – HDMI LVDS I2S OUTPUT Module
connected to the RPi I2S GPIO pins.  The HDMI output of the module
would then connect to your D90.

I think I have that right(?)
