Do you have the option to update plugins automatically ticked. I used to and found plugins were downloading but I had no idea when they were available until the next server restart. I unticked the automatic download and now get the green notification icon when there is a new server version and when a plugin update is available leaving it up to me when to update ( server or plugin) .
