Yes, I do have auto update plugins checked. It seems counterintuitive to not have it checked in order to know when to restart to complete update (??). Craig, understand that it takes time, but will Material not flag an update if auto update is checked? So, is Groundsman's technique best? This is starting to get to be more LMS and less Material. Maybe my best bet is just to set a restart schedule in pCP.
