That is the difference then. I was scrolling down to "Browse on Spotify" at the bottom of the list of albums after selecting an artist. Try that
Ok, confirmed. But basically for the "Top Tracks" only, right? Other items would play.
BTW: the same applies to "Top Tracks" of artists you browse by "Similar Artists".
