Thanks for the suggestion Paul
I already had https verification turned off in LMS (so that I can get
automatic plugin updates from sourceforge).
I'm on the latest community LMS version 8.3.0.  
I will check if the SSL certificates point might be a possible fix today
(I've had guests here so haven't had a chance yet).
