Interesting idea, as long as the standard SoftSqueeze display is still available and is the default.
SoftSqueeze is an invaluable tool for gently introducing people into the SlimServer world. They can rip some CDs, install SlimServer then play with SoftSqueeze to "get the idea" of how a squeezebox works and how it will probably change (improve) the methods by which they listen to music. Installing SlimServer/SoftSqueeze has made it easy for me to persuade people to buy a Squeezebox, as they can see what they're getting before they spend anything, and get used to the behaviour. Unfortunately they can't HEAR what they're getting, but a demo of my system fixes that worry pretty quickly. So, even if it was possible, why would you want a better SoftSqueeze display if it didn't replicate what the genuine hardware can do? You certainly wouldn't use SoftSqueeze as your main music source (if you really wanted a standalone laptop system you'd use SlimServer with Moose, SlimFX etc.), so there's no point adding any bells and whistles is there? -- Skittler Dave.
