Have you tried changing the options in the TrackStat user interface: - "Number of songs/albums/artists to use in dynamic playlists" I'm not completely sure, but I think it will play the top xx tracks in random order where xx is the number specified in this property. Of course, this will affect all of the dynamic playlists provided by TrackStat so it might make some other ones unusable. The reason it freezes is probably that the SQL takes to long time to execute.
