I would say that there is something wrong with your installation, at least it behaves differently than mine. I might have asked this already, but do you have any third party plugins installed ?
I think you need to enable some debugging flags and provide the log file from SlimServer when you try to hold play. The debug flags are found in "Server Settings/Debugging", I think you probably want to enabled d_ir and maybe also d_command.
