I would say that there is something wrong with your installation, at
least it behaves differently than mine. I might have asked this
already, but do you have any third party plugins installed ?

I think you need to enable some debugging flags and provide the log
file from SlimServer when you try to hold play.

The debug flags are found in "Server Settings/Debugging", I think you
probably want to enabled d_ir and maybe also d_command.

There flags doesn't survive a SlimServer restart, so it would also be
interesting to see the log when you start slimserver with:
Slim.exe --d_ir      (on Windows)
slimserver.pl --d_ir     (on Linux)

At startup SlimServer reads the button configuration, so in the log
provided when SlimServer is run this way it should be possible to see
which key settings it uses.
