Hi Bpa, I don't think you are understanding what the kubuntu situation is. Alien was bust because today's kde4 upgrades are not compatible with the kde3 structure. I have just trashed all kde4 components changed the repositories by unchecking the "proposed" box. Reinstalled mplayer using adept and alien works again. I would guess that the "proposed" ie 8.10 kubuntu isn't compatible with alienbbc. why should I have to mess with where mplayer is installed to get it working? The present situation is that kde is compatible with alienbbc which surely is good for those kde users who have even less knowledge than me. Surely the best way to deal with this problem is for the alien bbc folks to find out where mplayer or kmplayer is in kubuntu 8.10n and then recode alienbbc to also look for mplayer in the new position. Alienbbc already looks for mplayer in several places. Cheers, Mike. -- mudlark SB3>CyrusDACX>PreXvs>NAP140+260A>KEFiQ7, Avondale and Naim cable, Kubuntu Gusty Gibbon server, linkstation for storage.
