The problem is that the latest KDE4 upgrade forced mplayer to be removed. With the upgrade in place I was unable to reinstall mplayer using adept. No doubt mplayer could be installed manually, my point being that this would be a retrograde step. i am trying to flag this problem because something will have to change to get the two working together.
