The problem is unusual especially as there are many alienbbcc osx users
who have no problems. If Braidy gives some info, we will get another
datapoint and possibly see what is common.
In the meantime, just to recap. The chain for data from BBC to audio
is as follows
Code:
--------------------
BBC server (REALAUDIO) -> mplayer ->(WAV) Flac -> SB3 playing Flac
->(WAV) lame -> SB3 playing MP3
--------------------
Since you hear the problem on SB3 and softsqueeze playing Flac. The
problem must be with either mplayer or Flac. Since you hear the problem
with mplayer playing out Mac speakers - then it looks like mplayer.
Braidy should do this test as well.
mplayer does not look at any hardware - it just processes data packets
from an incoming socket and passes then out to a file. So no OS or
hardware dependencies except possibly standard libraries.
It is hard to understand what could be wrong. The different stations
use different RealAudio profiles and it is possible that mplayer can't
handle it. The profile may have changed recently at the BBC and so
make the problem visible now.
Can you test Listen again on Radio 3 and Radio 4. Both of these use
different RealAudio profiles.
What I would like to do is get a copy of a file from mplayer playing a
program on your systems but I need to research the command line to be
used.
